Oiless Plate
Oiless Plate is an innovative tableware design that revolutionizes the traditional dining plate concept by incorporating a sophisticated spiral-bottom structure to address the common concern of excessive oil consumption in meals, particularly in Chinese cuisine. Created by Italian-based designer Hongfeng Ni, this thoughtfully engineered ceramic plate measures 184 x 184 x 13 millimeters and features a unique spiral pattern on its base that facilitates three natural oil-reduction behaviors: scraping, pressing, and absorption. The design's brilliance lies in its ability to seamlessly integrate these functionalities into everyday dining experiences without requiring conscious effort from users, making it an exemplary case of user-centered design thinking. The plate's development, which spanned from April 2017 to February 2019, involved extensive user observation studies and careful consideration of Chinese aesthetics and dining habits.
