Oilcloth For Use As Tablecloths
Oilcloth is a type of fabric that has been treated with a coating of oil or vinyl, making it waterproof and durable. It is commonly used as a tablecloth as it provides protection against spills and stains. Oilcloth is available in a variety of colors and patterns, making it a popular choice for both indoor and outdoor use. The history of oilcloth dates back to the 18th century when it was used to make sails for ships. The fabric was later used for tents and awnings before it became popular as a tablecloth material. The use of oilcloth as a tablecloth became widespread in the 1950s and 60s when it was a popular choice for kitchen and dining room tables. One of the main advantages of using oilcloth as a tablecloth is its easy maintenance. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, making it a practical choice for busy households. Additionally, oilcloth is resistant to fading and can withstand exposure to sunlight, making it a durable option for outdoor use. Despite its practicality, oilcloth does have some drawbacks. It is not heat-resistant, so hot dishes should not be placed directly on it. Additionally, oilcloth can be prone to cracking over time, especially if it is exposed to extreme temperatures. In conclusion, oilcloth is a practical and durable material that is commonly used as a tablecloth. Its waterproof and easy-to-clean properties make it a popular choice for both indoor and outdoor use.
