NuBel Restaurant is an innovative architectural and interior design project that reimagines dining space beneath the Jean Nouvel-designed auditorium, exemplifying a harmonious blend of form and function through its distinctive circular fractal geometry. This Gold A' Design Award-winning establishment, designed by Paula Rosales, represents a sophisticated approach to contemporary restaurant design, where careful attention to lighting, acoustics, and spatial organization creates an environment that seamlessly transitions from casual dining to formal events. The design philosophy centers on a modular circular system that begins with a 60-centimeter diameter, representing the space occupied by an individual, and expands through various scales to create intimate dining zones and flexible gathering spaces. The restaurant's distinctive features include custom-designed floating furniture, innovative lighting solutions resembling a garden of flowers, and specially crafted carpets with watercolor-like patterns. The interior employs a thoughtful material palette, incorporating sound-absorbent curtains, microcement surfaces, and upholstered elements that contribute to both aesthetic appeal and acoustic comfort. The design's unique approach to space organization allows for remarkable adaptability, accommodating diverse user groups from morning until late night, while maintaining a cohesive visual identity through its circular motifs and carefully curated color schemes. The project, completed in 2016, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its response to complex spatial challenges, particularly in harmonizing with the existing architectural context while creating a distinct identity that earned recognition through the prestigious A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category.
