Nostalgia Interior Design
Nostalgia Interior Design is an innovative interior design approach that harmoniously blends LOFT aesthetics, contemporary North European elements, and nostalgic sensibilities to create spaces that bridge past and present design paradigms. This design philosophy, exemplified in a 138-square-meter residential project completed in 2017 in Hsinchu County, Taiwan, demonstrates the sophisticated integration of industrial elements with warm, nostalgic touches. The design methodology emphasizes the juxtaposition of contrasting elements - consolidation and diversity, delicacy and harshness - to create meaningful spatial narratives. Characteristic features include exposed concrete walls, industrial-style plumbing, iron works, and Edison lamps, balanced with warm wooden elements and carefully curated vintage pieces such as leather chairs, classic television sets, and vinyl record players. The spatial organization employs an open-plan layout that ingeniously combines living, dining, and bar areas, utilizing multifunctional furniture solutions such as an extended dining table that doubles as a work surface. The design's material palette incorporates exposed brick walls, cement finishes, and wooden flooring, creating a tactile environment that speaks to both industrial heritage and domestic comfort. Dark blue and green color schemes enhance the atmospheric quality, while retro-style illumination fixtures contribute to the space's nostalgic ambiance. This innovative approach to residential design, created by designers Jung-Chen Hsieh and Yi-Hsuan Lung, earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in combining functional space planning with emotional resonance through thoughtful material selection and atmospheric design elements.
