NorthYork Design Office is an innovative interior design project completed in May 2020 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, that reimagines the traditional workplace environment through a humanistic and minimalist approach. The 100-square-meter office space, designed by Alex Hsiung, breaks away from conventional corporate aesthetics by emphasizing natural elements and creating a harmonious balance between functionality and comfort. The design philosophy centers on the concept of purity, utilizing a carefully curated palette of materials including hand-applied paint, natural wood, and mellow stone, all bathed in abundant natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. The space incorporates distinct functional areas including a reception counter, meeting spaces, working areas, and a tea room, connected through transparent glass partitions that promote fluid circulation and visual connectivity. Notable design elements include a sophisticated combination of steel-brushed veneer, slate-textured boards, imported floor tiles, and non-toxic coatings, creating a unique custom-made environment that prioritizes both aesthetics and sustainability. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, distinguishes itself through its innovative approach to workplace design, featuring a floating reception desk illuminated from below, grayscale hand-painted walls, and thoughtfully integrated display elements that create a sense of visual rhythm and spatial harmony. The design successfully addresses the contemporary needs of office workers who spend extended hours in the workspace by incorporating biophilic elements and creating a resort-like atmosphere that helps alleviate workplace pressure while maintaining professional functionality.
