Northern Cardinal

The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a passerine bird species found in woodlands, backyards, parks, and gardens in the eastern and central United States, as well as parts of Mexico. The male is a brilliant red color with a black face mask, while females are more subdued with a pale brown body and red highlights. Cardinals are highly social and can often be seen in pairs or small flocks, foraging on the ground or in low shrubs. They feed primarily on a variety of seeds, fruits, and insects. This species is also known for its vocalizations, which are a mixture of whistles, chirps, and warbles.
