Noriko Ambe
Noriko Ambe is a highly acclaimed contemporary artist hailing from Japan, who has made a name for herself in the international art world through her innovative and thought-provoking works. Ambe's artistic practice is characterized by a fascination with the concept of space, both physical and metaphysical, and the ways in which it can be manipulated and reimagined. She is particularly interested in the relationship between the individual and the environment, and the ways in which we navigate and interact with the spaces around us. One of the hallmarks of Ambe's work is her use of unconventional materials and techniques. She is known for her intricate and labor-intensive paper-cutting, which involves meticulously slicing and layering sheets of paper to create intricate three-dimensional forms. Ambe's paper-cutting works are often inspired by maps and topographical imagery, and explore the idea of the landscape as a physical manifestation of memory and experience. In addition to her paper-cutting works, Ambe has also created a number of large-scale installations and video projects that further explore her interest in space and the environment. Her installations often involve the use of found objects and natural materials, such as branches, stones, and soil, which she manipulates and recontextualizes to create new, otherworldly environments. Overall, Noriko Ambe is a highly original and innovative artist whose work challenges our perceptions of space, memory, and the environment. Through her use of unconventional materials and techniques, she invites us to see the world around us in new and unexpected ways.
