Nomads Jewellery Collection

Nomads Jewellery Collection is an innovative and culturally significant jewelry design series that explores the aesthetic heritage of nomadic ethnic groups, including Mongol, Kazakh, and Gypsy traditions, through a contemporary lens. Created between 2017 and 2018 by designers Igor Komov, Katerina Komova, and Yuri Zotov, this collection represents a sophisticated interpretation of archaic jewelry-making techniques and materials. The collection, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category, comprises several distinctive pieces including wireframe monoearrings, chain and button compositions, wheel-shaped wireframe earrings, torus rings, and a necklace featuring recycled fur. Distinguished by its use of bronze as the primary material, complemented by gold plating and unconventional elements such as recycled fur and found objects like buttons, the collection embodies the raw, spontaneous nature of nomadic craftsmanship. The design philosophy deliberately strips away excessive decorative elements to achieve a laconic, contemporary aesthetic while maintaining the essential spirit of nomadic cultural heritage. The collection's technical execution involves sophisticated metalworking techniques including hammer-texturing and welding, while incorporating dynamic elements through freely hanging chain constructions. The pieces, varying in dimensions from intimate ring sizes to statement necklaces reaching 405mm in length, emerged from extensive research into museum collections of ancient jewelry, resulting in a thoughtful synthesis of historical reference and modern sensibility. This philosophical and sensory-rich approach to jewelry design challenges conventional glamour-oriented perspectives, offering instead a deeply researched and culturally informed interpretation of nomadic aesthetic traditions.
