Niulanshan Zodiac Ox Edition
Niulanshan Zodiac Ox Edition is an innovative packaging design that exemplifies the fusion of traditional Chinese zodiac symbolism with contemporary abstract aesthetics, created specifically for the Year of the Ox 2021 lunar celebration. This distinguished design, conceptualized by Tiger Pan and team, represents a significant departure from conventional realistic zodiac representations in Chinese liquor packaging, employing sophisticated minimalist elements that resonate with modern consumers while honoring cultural traditions. The design's most striking feature is its architectural approach to the bottle structure, characterized by blade-sliced straight lines that symbolically represent the robust character and uncompromising spirit of the ox. The bottle's distinctive top seamlessly doubles as both an ox horn and a bullring, while the strategic extension of the calligraphic stroke in the character Niu (meaning ox) cleverly incorporates the contemporary Chinese slang meaning of awesome, creating a multi-layered cultural reference. Manufactured with premium glass for the bottle and wood for the packaging, the design maintains precise dimensions of 92.5*393mm for the bottle and 182*435*128mm for the box, establishing a presence that commands attention in the premium spirits market. The project, which commenced in April 2020 and launched in December 2020, garnered international recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to innovative packaging design. This limited edition release successfully bridges traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary design sensibilities, demonstrating how packaging design can effectively communicate brand heritage while appealing to modern aesthetic preferences.
