Nippon Shinyaku Koku Office Space

Nippon Shinyaku Koku Office Space is an innovative interior design project completed in 2021, representing a sophisticated interpretation of contemporary Japanese workplace architecture. Located near Nishioji station in Kyoto Prefecture, this free address workspace encompasses 369.8 square meters and masterfully integrates traditional Japanese architectural elements with modern office requirements. The design, conceived by Reiichi Ikeda, incorporates the traditional concept of tuzukima through strategically placed steel frames that echo the outlines of fusuma (traditional sliding doors), creating subtle spatial divisions without compromising openness. The project's distinctive features include V-shaped glass walls that redefine the boundary between interior and exterior spaces, while the deliberate extension of exterior flooring materials into the interior creates an intriguing spatial continuity. The material palette combines mortar-based magnetic tiles, custom brass pendant lighting, and thoughtfully selected finishing materials that reflect both functionality and aesthetic refinement. The space's design philosophy emphasizes individual comfort and flexibility, allowing occupants to choose work areas that best suit their preferences. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to environmental context and cultural heritage while addressing modern workplace dynamics. The design successfully balances privacy and openness through its innovative use of architectural elements, lighting, and spatial arrangement, creating an environment that promotes both productivity and well-being.
