MZS Design College Interior Design
MZS Design College Interior Design is an exemplary educational space renovation project that masterfully integrates traditional Chinese garden design elements with contemporary architectural sensibilities. Located in Suzhou, a city renowned for its classical gardens, this interior design project demonstrates a sophisticated approach to cultural preservation while meeting modern educational needs. The design, conceived and executed by Miaofei Jiang, harmoniously blends traditional Suzhou architectural elements such as whitewashed plaster walls, distinctive moon doors, and intricate garden architecture with modern functionality. A particularly noteworthy aspect of this project is its innovative approach to sustainability and participatory design, where furnishings were crafted using recycled branches, bamboo, and hand-strawed hemp ropes, involving students in the creation process and thereby adding pedagogical value to the space itself. The renovation, completed in 2015, successfully transformed an outdated school building into a multi-functional environment that serves as a teaching facility, research center, and creative studio for various traditional arts including lacquer art, bamboo carving, and silk painting. The project's excellence in merging cultural heritage with contemporary design principles earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its outstanding achievement in spatial innovation, cultural relevance, and sustainable design practices. The design's success lies in its ability to create a meaningful educational environment that not only preserves traditional Chinese design elements but also promotes hands-on learning and artistic expression through its thoughtfully crafted spaces and participatory furniture creation process.
