My Coin 3D Animation

My Coin 3D Animation

My Coin 3D Animation is a thought-provoking digital narrative that explores the complex nature of human value systems through sophisticated 3D computer animation techniques. Created by designer Sungkyun Bae in collaboration with an international team including Huy Bui, Michelle Trapani, Reka Kadar, Tony Lewin, and Xue Han, this compelling short animation masterfully portrays the encounter between a young boy who loses his coin in a sewer and a wealthy man who responds by offering gold bullion as a replacement. The work, which garnered the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Movie, Video and Animation Design category, demonstrates exceptional technical prowess in 3D animation while delivering a profound message about the subjective nature of value perception. Through its innovative narrative approach and meticulous execution using Maya software, the animation effectively illustrates how different individuals assign varying degrees of worth to material objects based on their personal circumstances and perspectives. The project, completed in March 2017 at Bournemouth University, successfully overcomes the challenge of conveying complex philosophical concepts within a concise timeframe, utilizing exaggerated character behaviors and dramatic expressions to enhance its storytelling impact. The animation's artistic merit lies not only in its technical excellence but also in its ability to prompt viewers to reflect on the fundamental nature of human values and social interactions, making it a significant contribution to contemporary digital storytelling and social commentary through animation.
