Mu House Residential Space

Mu House Residential Space

Mu House Residential Space is an award-winning residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of geometric symbolism and sustainable living principles. Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, this 132-square-foot living space masterfully balances form and function through its innovative spatial arrangement and thoughtful design elements. The project, completed in 2019 by designer Hsuan-Cheng Chuang, employs a sophisticated conceptual framework where square spaces represent living areas and circular elements symbolize family unity, creating a profound metaphorical dialogue between geometric forms and domestic life. The design's distinctive features include the strategic use of grayish-white walls to establish an atmosphere of elegance and comfort, while maximizing the natural light that streams in from the property's privileged position overlooking a riverbank and mountain vista. The renovation expanded the original four-room layout to include three additional separate rooms and a multifunctional space, demonstrating exceptional space optimization while maintaining generous common areas. Environmental consciousness is evident in the selection of sustainable construction materials for walls, paints, and system furniture, reflecting a commitment to both resident health and ecological responsibility. The design earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its excellence in spatial planning, material selection, and innovative approach to contemporary residential design. The project's success lies in its ability to create a sense of boundless horizon within limited confines, achieved through careful attention to material layering, color ratios, and the seamless integration of interior elements with the natural surroundings.
