Mortars
Mortars are a type of artillery weapon that is designed to fire explosive shells at high angles of elevation, allowing them to hit targets that are hidden behind obstacles or located in trenches. Unlike other artillery weapons, mortars are designed to be fired from a stationary position, as they are typically too heavy and cumbersome to be moved around easily. Mortars come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small, handheld models that can be carried by a single soldier to large, heavy-duty models that require a team of operators to set up and fire. They are typically made of metal or other durable materials, and are designed to withstand the intense pressures and forces that are generated when the explosive shell is fired. One of the key advantages of mortars is their ability to fire shells at high angles of elevation, which allows them to hit targets that are hidden behind obstacles or located in trenches. This makes them particularly effective in urban combat situations, where enemy forces may be hiding behind buildings or other structures. Additionally, mortars are relatively quiet when fired, making them difficult for enemy forces to locate and target. Despite their many advantages, mortars are not without their drawbacks. One of the biggest challenges associated with using mortars is accurately targeting them, as they are typically fired from a stationary position and do not have the same level of precision as other artillery weapons. Additionally, mortars can be difficult to transport and set up, especially in rugged terrain or other challenging environments.
