Morin Khuur

Morin khuur, also known as horsehead fiddle, is a traditional musical instrument from Mongolia. It is a stringed instrument that is played using a bow made from horsehair. The name of the instrument is derived from its shape, which resembles the head of a horse, and the word morin, which means horse in Mongolian. The body of the morin khuur is made from a carved wooden soundbox, which is covered with animal skin. Two strings made from horsehair are stretched over a wooden bridge, and the bow is also made from horsehair. The player holds the instrument vertically, with the soundbox resting on the knee, and uses the fingers of the left hand to press the strings while bowing with the right hand. The morin khuur is an important part of Mongolian culture and is often played at traditional ceremonies and festivals. It is also used in modern Mongolian music and has gained popularity outside of Mongolia in recent years.
