Mooncraft Bar is an innovative boutique establishment located in Shanghai's historic South Bund district, specifically within the Cool Docks area, that masterfully integrates contemporary design elements with the rich cultural heritage of its location. Originally conceived as a multifunctional space occupying three connecting shop units in a former grease factory, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning venue exemplifies sophisticated architectural and interior design integration through its thoughtful spatial arrangement and aesthetic elements. The design draws inspiration from the celestial connection between the moon and the Huangpu River, incorporating this theme throughout its visual identity and spatial composition. The 130-square-meter space features distinctive weathered steel portals at its entrance, reaching 3 meters in height, which pay homage to traditional dockside warehouses while creating a striking contemporary presence. The interior is cleverly segmented into various functional zones, including a craft beer bar with a 1.1-meter high countertop and a whiskey bar positioned on an elevated platform with a 0.7-meter high counter, creating subtle spatial hierarchies. The design employs a refined material palette of weathered steel, stainless steel, and back-painted glass, while strategic use of circular elements and folding mirrors creates engaging lunar-inspired reflections throughout the space. The venue's sophisticated design earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, highlighting its excellence in spatial innovation, material selection, and cultural integration.
