Mleiha Bowl Dinning Tray

Mleiha Bowl Dinning Tray

Mleiha Bowl Dinning Tray is an innovative sculptural dining accessory that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of functional design and cultural storytelling through its distinctive form inspired by the desert landscape of Mleiha, UAE. This handcrafted wooden tray, measuring 45 x 45 x 8 centimeters, is meticulously carved from a single piece of meranti wood, featuring organic contours that mirror the undulating sand dunes of the ancient Magan settlement dating back to 2,500 B.C. The design incorporates ergonomic considerations with its three-point contact base ensuring stability while maintaining a light, floating appearance. The tray's thoughtful composition includes strategically placed concavities - a larger depression for dates or nuts and a smaller one for pits - making it both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The manufacturing process emphasizes traditional craftsmanship, with each piece being hand-sanded and finished with natural mineral oil and wax, preserving and enhancing the wood's natural grain patterns. This attention to detail creates a highly tactile object that engages users through its sensual topography and aromatic qualities. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design category, represents a sophisticated interpretation of regional heritage in contemporary dining accessories, demonstrating how historical landscapes can inform modern functional design.
