Michel Parmentier

Michel Parmentier was a French artist who played a significant role in the development of abstract art in the 20th century. He was born in 1938 in Paris and studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in the city. Parmentier's early works were influenced by the abstract expressionist movement, but he soon developed his own style, characterized by a focus on color, texture, and geometric shapes. Throughout his career, Parmentier produced a wide range of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. He was particularly interested in exploring the relationship between art and space, and many of his works were designed to be installed in specific locations. Parmentier also collaborated with architects and designers on a number of public art projects, including murals and sculptures. One of Parmentier's most famous series of works is the Troubles series, which he began in the mid-1960s. These paintings are characterized by their bold, geometric shapes and bright colors, and they are considered some of the artist's most important works. Parmentier continued to produce abstract paintings throughout his career, and his later works often featured more muted colors and subtle textures. Despite his significant contributions to the art world, Parmentier remains somewhat underappreciated outside of France. However, his influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary artists, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of abstract artists.
