Michael Goldberg

Michael Goldberg was an American abstract artist who rose to prominence in the mid-20th century. Born in New York City in 1924, Goldberg began his artistic career as a figurative painter before transitioning to abstraction in the 1950s. He was heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement, which emphasized the spontaneous and gestural qualities of painting. Goldberg's work was characterized by its energetic brushstrokes, bold colors, and dynamic compositions. Throughout his career, Goldberg experimented with a variety of materials and techniques, including oil paint, acrylics, and collage. He was particularly interested in the interplay between color and form, and his work often featured overlapping shapes and lines. Some of his most famous works include Babylonica, A Walk Through the Fields, and The Great Wall of China. In addition to his work as an artist, Goldberg was also an influential teacher and mentor. He taught at a number of prestigious institutions, including the School of Visual Arts in New York City and the University of California, Berkeley. Many of his students went on to become successful artists in their own right. Despite his success, Goldberg remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He continued to paint and experiment with new techniques until his death in 2007 at the age of 82.
