Merlyn Evans

Merlyn Evans was a British artist who was known for his contributions to the development of abstract art in post-war Britain. Born in Swansea, Wales, Evans was a self-taught artist who studied philosophy at Columbia University before returning to his homeland. He was an active member of the British Avant-Garde art scene and played a significant role in the development of abstract art in Britain. Evans' works are characterized by their use of geometric forms, bold colors, and a sense of movement and rhythm. One of Evans' most famous works is Moorland Landscape, which features a series of overlapping geometric shapes in shades of blue, green, and brown. The painting creates a sense of depth and movement, with the shapes appearing to shift and change as the viewer moves around the canvas. Another notable work is Rhythmic Forms in Space, which features a series of overlapping circles and squares in shades of red, blue, and yellow. The painting creates a sense of movement and energy, with the shapes appearing to dance and vibrate on the canvas. Evans' work was influenced by a number of different sources, including the work of Russian Constructivist artists and the ideas of philosopher Alfred North Whitehead. He was also interested in the relationship between art and science, and his work often reflects this interest. Despite his contributions to the development of abstract art in Britain, Evans' work is not as well-known as that of some of his contemporaries. However, his influence can be seen in the work of many younger artists who have been inspired by his use of geometric forms and bold colors.
