Meridian Space Massage

Meridian Space Massage

Meridian Space Massage is an innovative interior design project that masterfully integrates traditional Chinese medicinal concepts with contemporary spatial design, created by designer Dung Lin Tsai. This 178-square-meter therapeutic environment reimagines the traditional massage space through the sophisticated interpretation of meridian pathways, incorporating them as architectural elements called mai walkways that flow throughout the space. The design philosophy draws profound inspiration from the ancient Chinese understanding of meridians and vessels, where energy and blood circulate through the body, translating these biological pathways into physical architectural elements. The space features vessel-like rooms branching from main pathways, constructed with natural materials that symbolize the body's natural state, creating a harmonious balance between functionality and symbolic representation. The project, completed in April 2023 in Taipei, demonstrates exceptional environmental consciousness through its approach to material usage, maintaining existing structural elements while introducing natural materials to reduce construction waste. This thoughtful design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial organization and its successful merger of traditional wellness concepts with modern design principles. The project stands out for its ability to transform abstract medical concepts into tangible spatial experiences, creating an environment where the therapeutic journey begins with the space itself.
