Mel Mory Cube Interactive Product is an innovative interactive device designed to address Chinese character amnesia through a unique multisensory approach, combining visual, auditory, and tactile elements in a novel learning experience. This groundbreaking interface design, created by Yi Xiang in collaboration with Felix Tsoi and Stephen J. Wang, transforms Chinese characters into distinctive melodies through a sophisticated self-identified mechanism, embedding these audio elements within interactive cubes. The system employs a carefully crafted combination of 3D-printed PLA components and Arduino circuitry, measuring 48x15x20 units, to create an engaging educational tool that tackles the growing phenomenon of character forgetting among Chinese language users. The design specifically addresses the challenges faced by experienced Chinese users who, due to increased reliance on electronic input methods, struggle to maintain their ability to write characters manually. This innovative solution represents a significant advancement in educational technology, offering a playful yet effective approach to maintaining cultural literacy. Through its unique integration of auditory-driven feedback and tangible interaction, users engage in a process of melodic validation and character sequence reformation, fostering both learning motivation and memory retention. The project, which emerged from extensive research conducted in Hong Kong during 2022, demonstrates remarkable success in improving participants' learning motivation and reducing character amnesia effects. This exceptional design innovation was recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interface, Interaction and User Experience Design category in 2023, acknowledging its contribution to preserving Chinese cultural heritage through interactive design.
