Masu Japanese Restaurant is an innovative Japanese dining establishment that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Japanese culinary philosophy with contemporary interior design aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from the historical significance of the 'masu' - a wooden box traditionally used in feudal Japan to measure a day's portion of rice for one person - this restaurant conceptually evolves this cultural element into a modern dining experience. The interior space, spanning 1800 square feet, was meticulously crafted by J. Candice Interior Architects, incorporating elements of Japanese paper cutting and Zen minimalism to create an atmosphere of refined simplicity. The design philosophy emphasizes the use of natural materials including stone, harvest wood, veneer, marble, and stainless steel, creating a sophisticated environment that complements the authentic Japanese cuisine. Under the guidance of chef Kazuya Nemoto, the culinary approach focuses on utilizing fresh local and regional ingredients, employing traditional Japanese cooking techniques such as Robatayaki and sushi preparation. The restaurant's design, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial organization, material selection, and cultural sensitivity. The project, completed in March 2013 in Hong Kong, represents a significant achievement in commercial interior design, successfully balancing functional requirements with aesthetic excellence while maintaining cultural authenticity.
