Massing Model
Massing Model is a simple, three-dimensional tool used in urban design to quickly show the size, shape, and arrangement of buildings or groups of buildings within a city block or neighborhood. Designers use massing models to test how new buildings will fit with streets, parks, and open spaces, and to see how sunlight and shadows move through the area at different times of day. These models help teams see how tall or wide a building should be to match the look and feel of the area, and they can help spot any problems with crowding or blocked views before construction starts. In urban design, massing models often use basic shapes and materials, like foam or cardboard, to keep the focus on the big picture instead of small details.
