Markus Kayser

Markus Kayser is a highly innovative and experimental artist and designer who has made significant contributions to the field of computational design and digital fabrication. He is known for his unique approach to creating art and functional objects using a combination of technology, engineering, and sculpture. Kayser's work is characterized by his use of unconventional materials, such as desert sand, salt, and glass, and his ability to harness the power of the sun and other natural resources to create his pieces. Kayser's Solar Sinter project, which he completed in 2010, is one of his most famous works. In this project, he used a homemade 3D printer powered by solar energy to create glass objects out of desert sand. This project was a breakthrough in the field of digital fabrication and demonstrated the potential of using renewable energy sources to power manufacturing processes. Kayser's other projects, such as Laser Sinter and Saltwork, also explore the possibilities of digital fabrication and material exploration. In Laser Sinter, he used a laser to fuse together layers of powdered nylon to create a series of intricate objects. In Saltwork, he created a series of sculptures using salt as a medium, exploring the properties of this material and its potential for artistic expression. Kayser's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and he has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the field of digital fabrication. He continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with technology and materials, and his work serves as an inspiration to artists and designers everywhere.

Markus Kayser

Markus Kayser is a German artist and maker working across technology, engineering, and sculpture. Originally from Berlin, Kayser studied industrial design at Central Saint Martins before enrolling at the Royal College of Art to further his studies in computational design and fabrication. Kayser is well-known for his Solar Sinter project in 2010, where he used sunlight and a homemade 3D printer to fashion glass objects out of desert sand. He has also worked on projects such as Laser Sinter, Saltwork, and Studio LAB, in which he utilizes a combination of digital fabrication technologies, material exploration, and open source hardware. Kayser's works have been displayed in several museums worldwide, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Design Museum in London, the MAK in Vienna, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
