Marco Castillo
Marco Castillo is a Cuban artist whose work explores the complexities of identity, migration, and displacement. His art is deeply rooted in his personal experiences as a Cuban immigrant living in the United States. Castillo's work often incorporates found objects and materials, such as discarded clothing and furniture, to create powerful installations that speak to the human condition. One of Castillo's most notable works is La Gran Madre (2015), a large-scale installation that features a towering pile of clothing donated by Cuban immigrants living in Miami. The installation serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices that immigrants make when leaving their homes and families behind in search of a better life. Another notable work is The Wall Between Us (2008), a site-specific installation that explores the concept of exclusion and the physical and psychological barriers that divide people. Castillo's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, the Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York, and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana. He has received numerous awards and grants for his work, including a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in 2017.
