Mabel Rubli was a prominent Argentine artist known for her expressive and vivid paintings, sculptures, photographs, and films. Born in Cordoba in 1921, Rubli traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Americas before settling in Buenos Aires in 1958. Her work was deeply rooted in tango and folk culture, and her use of vibrant colors and physical energy was a hallmark of her artistic style. Rubli was an active participant in Argentina's artistic scene during the 1970s, teaching at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in La Plata and working in multiple disciplines. Her contributions to the arts were recognized with numerous awards and exhibitions, including a retrospective at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires in 2002. Rubli's oeuvre includes many notable works, such as El Tango, a large painting of two lovers tangoing in a crowded bar, and El Desconocido, an installation of a white horse with a pair of outstretched wings. Her art often explored themes of love, passion, and the human experience, and her use of bold colors and dynamic brushstrokes conveyed a sense of movement and emotion. Despite her success as an artist, Rubli remained humble and dedicated to her craft throughout her life. She continued to create and exhibit her work until her death in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of artistic excellence and a lasting impact on the Argentine art world.
