Luka Mjeda
Luka Mjeda was a highly influential Croatian artist who made significant contributions to the world of abstract expressionism. Born in 1920 in the city of Split, Mjeda studied at the Art Academy in Zagreb before becoming a member of the Grupa 55, a prominent Croatian artist collective. Mjeda's work was characterized by its hard-edged geometric shapes and bold use of color, which often included large scale canvases and abstract sculptures. One of Mjeda's most important contributions to the world of art was his unique approach to color. He was known for his use of bright, saturated colors that were applied in thick, textured layers to create a sense of depth and movement within his paintings. Mjeda's work was also notable for its use of negative space, which he used to create a sense of balance and harmony within his compositions. In addition to his work as a painter and sculptor, Mjeda was also a respected art critic and writer. He wrote extensively on the subject of modern art, and his writings were highly influential in shaping the discourse around abstract expressionism in Croatia and beyond. Despite his significant contributions to the art world, Mjeda's work remains relatively unknown outside of Croatia. However, his legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists and his work remains an important part of the country's cultural heritage.
