Loft Gauges

Loft Gauges

Loft gauges are tools used in the field of golf to measure the angle of the clubface in relation to the shaft. The loft angle is an important factor in determining the trajectory and distance of the golf ball. The loft gauge is typically a small, handheld device with a flat base and a protractor-like measuring tool. The golfer places the clubface against the base of the gauge and aligns the measuring tool with the leading edge of the clubface. The angle measurement is then read from the protractor. Loft gauges are commonly used by club manufacturers to ensure that their clubs meet the desired specifications. They are also used by club fitters to adjust the loft angle of a club to suit the individual golfer's swing and ball flight characteristics. The loft angle can be adjusted by bending the clubhead, which is typically made of metal or composite materials. The loft angle of a club is typically measured in degrees, with most drivers having a loft angle between 8 and 12 degrees, while irons can range from 18 to 64 degrees. The loft angle affects the trajectory of the ball, with lower loft angles producing a lower, more penetrating ball flight and higher loft angles producing a higher, more arcing ball flight. In summary, loft gauges are important tools in the golf industry for measuring the loft angle of a clubface. They are used by manufacturers to ensure that their clubs meet desired specifications and by club fitters to adjust the loft angle to suit individual golfers. The loft angle is an important factor in determining the trajectory and distance of the golf ball.
