Living In A Green Forest House
Living in a Green Forest House is an innovative architectural design project that reimagines the traditional Taiwanese street house through sustainable and modern design principles. Created by architect Tsung Hsien Wu of Glocal Architecture Office, this four-story, 260-square-meter residential structure represents a significant departure from conventional urban housing layouts while emphasizing environmental consciousness and family connectivity. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, incorporates passive design strategies by strategically positioning lavatories and staircases on the east and west sides to maintain optimal temperature control and reduce air conditioning requirements. The structure's distinctive features include a ground-floor kitchen positioned near the front entrance, contrary to traditional layouts, facilitating social interaction and hospitality. All windows face an adjacent park, while room doors open toward raised-ceiling areas, creating a natural ventilation system that promotes air circulation throughout the space. The innovative spatial arrangement includes a first-floor living room connected to a second-floor open cut, encouraging family gatherings and social interaction. The building's sustainable features extend to its orientation, taking advantage of natural lighting and ventilation while addressing challenges of limited width and boundary restrictions. This architectural solution demonstrates how contemporary urban housing can balance environmental responsibility with modern living requirements, creating a non-toxic, pressure-free living environment that received recognition for its innovative approach to residential architecture.
