Lisa Steele
As an art historian, I find Lisa Steele to be a fascinating artist. Born in 1948 in Hamilton, Ontario, she is considered one of the most important figures in contemporary Canadian art. Her works are often concerned with the documentary tradition and tackle universal themes of death, mortality and transience. One of her most famous works is Sun TV, a three channel video installation which captures the different perspectives of a city's inhabitants. Another famous work is Folios/Filmstripts which consists of a series of photographs and video performances, creating a narrative of the lives of her subjects. Additionally, she has also released several mixed media works which have been exhibited in galleries across Canada and around the world.
