Lineographic
The term Lineographic is an English word that has evolved from the combination of two roots; ‘linea’ and ‘graph’. The Latin word ‘linea’, meaning ‘line’, is related to the ancient Greek ‘linos’, which in turn is connected to Proto Indo-European ‘ley-’. This ancestral root, meaning ‘to leave’, is also present in the term ‘graph’, which is derived from the Greek ‘graphos’, meaning ‘write’; this in turn is connected to the Proto Indo-European ‘gʷher-’, meaning ‘to grasp’ – thus forming a connection between ‘leaving’ and ‘grasping’. Morphologically, the word ‘Lineographic’ is comprised of two free morphemes: ‘linea’ and ‘graph’, the sum of which conveys an action or process of making a line. From a pragmatic point of view, the term is used to refer to a range of activities including the production of books, maps, and other artifacts that rely on the use lines as a visual representation of data.
