Lightscape Pavilion is an innovative architectural installation that harmoniously blends traditional Asian craftsmanship with contemporary digital fabrication techniques. This luminous structure, which garnered the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, consists of ten columns crafted from intricately crisscrossing bamboo dowels, with four central columns expanding into a 2.4-meter-high canopy that spans 8 meters in width and 4 meters in depth. The pavilion's design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese lanterns, incorporating standardized bamboo dowels and precision-engineered acrylic joints fabricated through CNC laser-cutting and drill-milling processes. Each column houses an integrated lighting system that illuminates the bamboo lattice from within, creating a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow during evening hours. Located at Marina Bay, Singapore, the structure establishes a compelling dialogue between rapid urbanization and traditional craftsmanship, while its vertical elements echo the surrounding skyscrapers and its organic form reflects the undulating waters of the bay. The pavilion's construction involved intensive structural testing of the hollow bamboo columns, resulting in an innovative weaving system that ensures structural integrity while maintaining aesthetic elegance. The project, completed in 2016, demonstrates exceptional technical achievement in combining digital fabrication with local materials, featuring a total area of approximately 66 square meters and incorporating interactive elements that respond to human presence through varying light intensities.
