Liberation Residential House
Liberation Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies a departure from conventional Asian residential architecture through its sophisticated approach to space optimization and light manipulation. Located in Taipei, Taiwan, this transformative design, created by ARMIN CHENG, challenges traditional residential layouts by implementing a series of architectural interventions that maximize natural light penetration and create fluid spatial connections. The project's distinguishing features include a strategic 150-centimeter-wide light corridor, which facilitates deeper sunlight penetration throughout the interior spaces, and a thoughtfully designed mezzanine in the children's bedroom that utilizes the 3.5-meter ceiling height. The design philosophy emphasizes minimalistic aesthetics, employing a predominantly white color palette complemented by warm wooden textures, while innovative elements such as steel plates and cables embedded into walls create functional yet visually lightweight structures. Notable architectural modifications include the adjustment of interior partition walls and the implementation of sliding doors and curtains in place of traditional solid walls, promoting a more transparent and interconnected living environment. The design incorporates multifunctional elements, such as an elevated wooden platform that serves both as a social space and concealed storage solution. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project, completed in 2014, demonstrates exceptional expertise in interior space planning, particularly in addressing the challenges of single-sided daylighting and irregular floor plans, while creating an environment that encourages dynamic interaction between residents and their living space.
