Liao Residence

Liao Residence

Liao Residence is an exemplary residential interior design project completed in 2020 in Taipei's Xinyi District, showcasing a thoughtful renovation approach that emphasizes preservation and enhancement rather than complete replacement. The 165.29-square-meter space, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates sophisticated design principles through its innovative spatial organization and material selection. The project, conceived by designer Chiu-Hung Cheung and team, embraces a subtractive design philosophy that carefully preserves the residence's original high-quality elements while introducing contemporary elements to create a harmonious living environment. The design features a meticulously planned layout encompassing an entrance, cloakroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, storage room, study room, master bedroom, two children's rooms, two bathrooms, and two dressing rooms. Notable design elements include a distinctive metal grille room divider at the entrance, inspired by the clients' existing furniture, which achieves a delicate balance between transparency and privacy. The renovation incorporates sophisticated material choices including metal paint compartments, wooden core boards, steel brush veneer, iron furnishings, and sandalwood flooring, while the color scheme thoughtfully employs gray tones with strategic accent colors to create visual interest. The private areas are particularly well-conceived, with each bedroom featuring its own dressing room and bathroom, while the children's room demonstrates careful consideration of twin occupancy through symmetrical furniture arrangement and age-appropriate design elements.
