Levels CT Coffee Table

Levels CT Coffee Table

Levels CT Coffee Table is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious blend of form and function through its distinctive dual-height configuration. Created by Jeffrey Day in 2016, this contemporary coffee table features overlapping planes that create a sophisticated stepped surface design, addressing the varied needs of users who prefer different table heights in their living spaces. The design's central concept revolves around adaptability and visual interest, achieved through carefully considered geometric relationships between its components. The table's construction showcases advanced manufacturing techniques, utilizing CNC-milled 18mm bamboo for the surface planes, which feature a severe chamfer undercut that creates an illusion of razor-thin surfaces. A notable design element is the tubular base that rises through the central axis, serving both as a structural support and a practical handle for repositioning. The overlapping sections not only provide increased usable surface area but also create compelling shadow play, adding depth and visual intrigue to the piece. Measuring 812mm in diameter with a height of 430mm, the table's proportions are carefully calculated to maintain both aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency. The design earned recognition through an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017, acknowledging its innovative approach to addressing user preferences and its contribution to contemporary furniture design. The piece demonstrates exceptional attention to manufacturing efficiency while maintaining design sophistication, featuring bent tubes that peel off from the central support column to provide an unconventional yet stable foundation for the stepped surfaces.
