Language Icon
A Language Icon is a symbol that represents a language or dialect, often used in digital interfaces, signage, packaging, or other materials. It is designed to be easily recognizable and understood by people from different cultures and backgrounds. The Language Icon was created to provide a universal and non-verbal way of identifying and selecting languages, without relying on flags, language names, or other irrelevant icons. The Language Icon was first ideated by Dr. Onur Mustak Cobanli in 2008, who recognized the need for a globally recognized symbol for language selection. However, the initial designs of the Language Icon were not satisfactory, and a competition was launched in 2011 to find a suitable design. The winning design, the Turnstile icon by designer Farhat Datta, was announced in 2012 and has been widely adopted since then. The Language Icon is an important tool for facilitating communication and accessibility in a globalized world. It allows users to easily switch between languages and access content in their preferred language, without the need for language proficiency or translation services. The Language Icon is also a symbol of linguistic diversity and cultural exchange, promoting mutual understanding and respect among different communities. In conclusion, the Language Icon is a visual representation of language that provides a universal and non-verbal way of identifying and selecting languages. An icon is a graphical representation of an object, idea or concept that is widely recognized and widely accepted as a symbol for that object, idea or concept. Language Icon could be used to represent language in a variety of contexts, such as on a website, in applications, on interactive signs or in a digital document where an end user might need to request the interface in another language. The Language Icon is a symbol that was created to signify language and be globally recognized. The Language Icon was specifically designed for use on multi-lingual websites, as a way to change or select language without relying on flags, language names, or other irrelevant icons such as a world picture. The Language Icon was first ideated by Dr. Onur Mustak Cobanli in 2008 for building a multi-lingual, multi-national website, however the initial design was not good enough; the initial concept of the language icon was a tongue symbol, then another icon was mouth in a square, and these initical concepts were not satisfactory. Furthermore, the language icon had a lot of potential, it was an important icon that could have widespread use, therefore Dr. Onur Mustak Cobanli created the Language Icon Design Competition and launched it at the A' Design Awards platform in 2011 to ensure a proper, well designed logo could be found. The Language Icon that we use today was created through the Language Icon Competition, organized and managed by A' Design Award and Competition, which called for designs of an icon that could be easily understood and recognized by people from all over the world. The winning design, selected by the competition organizers and public voting, was the Turnstile icon by designer Farhat Datta, which was announced in 2012 and made publicly available.
