Léon Interactive Light
Léon Interactive Light is an innovative interactive lighting fixture that revolutionizes the traditional paradigm of home illumination by eliminating physical switches in favor of gesture-based control. Designed by Lewis Power, this sophisticated lighting system employs advanced Time of Flight (TOF) sensors to create an intuitive and poetic interaction between user and light. The design, which won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, draws inspiration from the phenomenon of light passing through smoke and the groundbreaking work of Léon Theramin's contactless musical instrument from 1919. Standing at 1620mm in height, with a width of 500mm and depth of 180mm, the fixture features a minimalist frame crafted from beech wood and incorporates a cutting-edge nonwoven material called Smash for optimal light diffusion. The interaction mechanism utilizes dual proximity sensors that independently control hue and brightness through vertical hand movements, creating an ethereal experience where the intangible nature of light is matched by its control method. The sophisticated technology integrates NeoPixel LEDs with integrated drivers, programmed to respond to relative distance measurements, allowing users to create personalized lighting atmospheres through intuitive gestures. This innovative approach to lighting control not only challenges conventional lighting paradigms but also promotes a more mindful and sensitive relationship with artificial lighting in domestic environments, representing a significant advancement in interactive lighting design and user experience.
