Prior to pursuing a PhD at the Royal College of Art and a teaching role on the RCA Information Experience Design course, Shim held a research fellowship and data visualisation specialist role at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was a faculty member at RISD. Shim has also worked at LUST (NL) and Vinyl (KR) studios, developing a speciality in the integrative and interdisciplinary realm of art, design and technology, particularly in the language of systematic and playful patterns in design & computation.
