Kotori Packaging
Kotori Packaging is an innovative Japanese charm packaging design that masterfully combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary emotional connectivity. The design concept derives its name from the fusion of Japanese words Kotoba (word) and Omamori (charm), embodying a carrier pigeon motif that symbolically delivers and protects cherished messages. This sophisticated packaging system consists of a meticulously crafted paulownia wood box featuring precise dimensions of 63mm x 104mm x 35mm, which houses a charm bag made from prestigious Nishijin textile, a material deeply rooted in Kyoto's cultural heritage. The interior of the box incorporates a distinctive wooden straw-like cushioning material that aesthetically and conceptually references a bird's nest, creating a thoughtful sanctuary for the enclosed charm measuring 40mm x 80mm. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, addresses the contemporary challenge of preserving meaningful words in an age of information overflow by transforming them into tangible, protective talismans. The packaging's sophisticated execution extends to its accompanying letter card system (29mm x 45mm), enabling users to preserve and transmit personal messages that serve as emotional anchors. This design innovation, developed in Tokyo and launched in 2019, represents a significant advancement in emotional design, offering a unique solution for maintaining human connections through physical artifacts in an increasingly digital world.
