Kishoku Japanese Restaurant

Kishoku Japanese Restaurant is an award-winning contemporary Japanese dining establishment that masterfully blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern design sensibilities. Located in Hong Kong, this 3,300-square-foot culinary space represents a sophisticated interpretation of Japanese gastronomy through its thoughtfully crafted interior architecture. The design concept draws inspiration from Japanese festival culture, particularly incorporating elements of traditional festival drums and lanterns reimagined through a contemporary lens. The interior space is strategically divided into three distinct areas: a booth area featuring handcrafted harvest tables crafted from premium raw wood, a central sushi bar crowned with an impressive arrangement of forty square lanterns in a checker pattern formation, and exclusive VIP rooms. The restaurant's design philosophy emphasizes a harmonious balance between Japanese Zen principles and traditional Chinese Feng Shui elements, utilizing a palette of light natural tones that complement the vibrant presentations of sushi and sashimi. Notable design features include suspended brown tassels with gilded copper crimps serving as subtle partitions between booth settings, and mirror-mounted ceilings creating a trompe l'oeil effect with the centerpiece installation. The VIP rooms showcase unique gold motif backdrops hand-painted by Japanese abstract artists, offering distinct dining experiences for chef's table events and private banquets. The material palette incorporates stone, ceramic tiles, wood veneer, marble, and stainless steel, demonstrating a commitment to quality and durability. This exceptional interior design project, completed in June 2013 by J. Candice Interior Architects under the direction of Karen Hon and Carmen Ho, was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its innovative approach to contemporary Japanese restaurant design.
