Kinari Kindergarten And Nursery Kindergarten And Nursery

Kinari Kindergarten and Nursery Kindergarten and Nursery is an innovative educational facility located in Shizuoka, Japan, that seamlessly integrates kindergarten and nursery functions within a culturally-inspired architectural design. Completed in 2017, this Silver A' Design Award-winning project draws its conceptual foundation from the region's rich textile heritage, particularly the traditional Enshu fabric industry. The facility's design philosophy centers around 'Ecru' (known as 'Kinari' in Japanese), which influences every aspect of its architectural expression, from the building's distinctive exterior featuring textile-inspired louvers resembling fabric warps to its thoughtfully crafted interior spaces. The 1106.29-square-meter structure, built across two stories using steel construction, encompasses a building area of 584.01 square meters within a 2811.31-square-meter site. The architectural design deliberately incorporates creative elements such as varied levels, small spaces, and carefully planned gaps, departing from conventional preschool design to encourage imaginative play and natural physical development. The facility's innovative approach extends to its dining spaces, which are designed to optimize children's nutrition and well-being through comfortable, naturally lit environments connected to visible kitchen areas. The building's exterior form pays homage to traditional weaving shops through its pitched roof design, while its material selection and color palette maintain strong connections to the local cultural heritage. This educational environment represents a sophisticated balance between functional requirements and cultural preservation, creating spaces that nurture children's development while maintaining strong ties to local traditions.
