Kashan Hotel

Kashan Hotel

Kashan Hotel is an architecturally significant hospitality project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Iranian architectural principles with contemporary design aesthetics. Located in the historic city of Kashan, Iran, this 20,357-square-meter architectural masterpiece, designed by Mahdi Fakhimi and team in 2017, demonstrates a profound understanding of cultural heritage, climate-responsive design, and sustainable architecture. The hotel's distinctive design philosophy centers on respecting the region's thousand-year-old history while incorporating modern functionality and comfort. The structure features a cubic volume articulated by central courtyards, with spaces thoughtfully separated by frames, incorporating traditional elements such as porches and open spaces inspired by historical precedents. The exterior primarily utilizes concrete, chosen for its thermal properties in managing the region's hot climate, while innovative shading solutions including retreating walls, porous surfaces, and integrated flora boxes contribute to environmental control. The design employs a sophisticated color palette, featuring turquoise accents and strategic use of vegetation to soften the visual impact of the facade. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, showcases exceptional attention to ecological considerations, implementing various sustainable strategies including natural ventilation through courtyards, climate-responsive shading devices, and careful material selection. The hotel's design successfully addresses multiple challenges, including efficient space utilization, service integration, and cost-effective material selection, while maintaining a strong connection to local architectural traditions and meeting contemporary hospitality requirements.
