He was a painter, printmaker, and sculptor, best known for his abstract and geometric artworks. Dahmen studied under the tutelage of Johannes Itten and Wassily Kandinsky at the Bauhaus in Dessau, where he developed a unique style that was characterized by bold shapes, strong lines, and vibrant colors. After World War II, Dahmen moved to Düsseldorf, where he became a key figure in the development of German abstract art. He was a member of the influential group of artists known as the Quadriga, which included artists such as Otto Greis, Georg Meistermann, and Bernard Schultze. Together, they sought to create a new form of abstract art that was rooted in the German tradition. Dahmen's artworks were exhibited in major galleries and museums throughout Europe and the United States. He was particularly renowned for his paintings The Swallow, Circle Variations, and Nocturne, which showcased his mastery of color and composition. In addition to his paintings, Dahmen also created sculptures and prints that reflected his interest in abstract forms and shapes. Despite his success, Dahmen remained a humble and private individual throughout his life.
