Kaos Coffee Table Coffee Table is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the intersection of functional furniture and sculptural art, created by Icelandic designers Steinn Sigurdsson and Stefan Ingolfsson. This unconventional coffee table, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, draws its inspiration from Iceland's dramatic landscape, particularly the chaotic forms found in glaciers and volcanic formations such as Eyjafjallajokull. The design features a distinctive asymmetrical top surface measuring 130.0 cm in length and 75.5 cm in width, complemented by a lower shelf of 136.0 cm by 53.0 cm, standing at a height of 41.5 cm. The table's construction employs high-gloss plastic-coated 30mm plywood for the top surface, 19mm plywood for the shelf, and poly-coated 11mm steel for the legs, creating a striking visual contrast. A notable aspect of the design is its ability to present different visual compositions depending on the viewing angle, effectively functioning as a free-standing sculpture while maintaining its practical purpose as a coffee table. The assembly process, which takes merely two to three minutes and utilizes two bolts with circled nuts and two rods, is intentionally incorporated as a visible design element, challenging traditional furniture construction paradigms. The abstract pattern and thoughtful ergonomics make it particularly suitable for living rooms and television lounges, with its form facilitating convenient placement of magazines, remote controls, and other everyday items while maintaining easy circulation around the piece.
