Kamen Stoyanov

Kamen Stoyanov was a Bulgarian artist who gained recognition for his unique expressionist paintings and sculptures. He was born in 1949 in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and studied at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. Stoyanov's works were characterized by their emotional intensity and psychological depth, often exploring themes of trauma, isolation, and the human condition. His paintings often featured distorted, elongated figures with exaggerated features, conveying a sense of unease and disquietude. Stoyanov's artistic style was heavily influenced by German Expressionism, which he discovered during his studies in Germany. He was also inspired by the works of Francis Bacon, Edvard Munch, and Alberto Giacometti. Stoyanov's sculptures were often based on classical themes, reinterpreted through his unique expressionist lens. His sculpture Satyr, for example, was based on a figure from a Greek terracotta figurine, but was rendered in Stoyanov's signature style, with exaggerated features and a sense of emotional intensity. Stoyanov's works were widely exhibited both in Bulgaria and abroad, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. He was a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and participated in many group exhibitions, as well as several solo exhibitions. Stoyanov's works can be found in many public and private collections, including the National Art Gallery in Sofia and the Sofia City Art Gallery.
