K11 Natural Zone With “Modern Vivarium”
K11 Natural Zone with Modern Vivarium is an innovative interior design project that revolutionizes the traditional retail space concept by creating a self-sufficient micro-ecological system within a commercial environment. This groundbreaking design, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, seamlessly integrates art, nature, and human interaction through its distinctive architectural elements. The space spans 836 square meters and features a sophisticated combination of mild steel frameworks, wooden veneer, and cement coating, creating a contemporary interpretation of an 18th-century terrarium concept. The design's most striking feature is its vertical garden entrance, which immediately immerses visitors in a high-oxygen environment, while irregular black mild steel frameworks extend from floor to ceiling, ingeniously concealing existing ventilation ducts and structural columns while creating an immersive terrarium experience. The interior incorporates diverse natural materials, including plants, moss, sand rocks, and animal-sculpted decorations, all harmoniously arranged to create a balanced ecosystem. The design's innovative approach to commercial space transformation is evident in its rough cement walls, nature-themed background music, and carefully curated lighting, which collectively foster a calm and relaxed atmosphere. This award-winning project, completed in 2017, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining functional retail requirements with artistic expression and environmental consciousness, setting new standards for modern commercial interior design while promoting the concept of sustainable, nature-integrated spaces.
