Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith was an American religious leader and founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, which is also known as Mormonism. Born in Sharon, Vermont in 1805, Smith claimed to have received a series of revelations from God that led him to establish a new religion. He published the Book of Mormon in 1830, which he claimed was a translation of an ancient scripture written on golden plates that had been revealed to him by an angel. Smith's teachings were controversial and he faced persecution throughout his life, eventually leading to his death in 1844. Despite the challenges he faced, Joseph Smith's legacy has endured. Today, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which was founded by Smith, has millions of members around the world. Smith's teachings have also influenced other religious movements, such as the Community of Christ and the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
