Josef Capek
Josef Capek is one of the most famous Czechoslovakian artists of the twentieth century, who was most well known for his cubist paintings and his playwright brother, Karel Capek. He was born in 1890 in what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire and is considered to be a master of cubism, despite being a self-taught artist. His works were often about nature and raw emotion, as he sought to capture his own experiences of life in a way that would evoke emotion in the onlooker. Some of his most well-known works include the painting, 'The Black Swan', 'The Street' and his self-portrait 'The Blue Rider'. Josef Capek had a career in art that spanned more than 40 years, during which time he had exhibits in art galleries around the world including in London, Prague and New York. His passion for modern art styles such as Expressionism and Cubism helped to shape Czech art in the twentieth century and he was honored as an important figure in the art world.
