John Bogle

John Bogle was an American investor and businessman who is best known for founding the Vanguard Group, one of the world's largest investment management companies. He was born in 1929 in New Jersey and graduated from Princeton University. After working in the investment industry for several years, Bogle founded Vanguard in 1974 with the goal of creating a mutual fund that would track the performance of the overall stock market, rather than trying to beat it. This approach, known as index investing, has since become a popular investment strategy. Bogle was a strong advocate for low-cost investing and believed that investors should focus on long-term goals rather than trying to time the market. He was also a vocal critic of the financial industry's focus on short-term profits and excessive fees. Bogle's philosophy and leadership helped Vanguard grow into a company with over $5 trillion in assets under management. In addition to his work at Vanguard, Bogle was also a prolific author and wrote several books on investing and personal finance. He was a respected voice in the financial industry and was known for his integrity and commitment to putting investors first. Bogle passed away in 2019 at the age of 89, but his legacy continues to influence the investment industry today.
